The lake is noted for its tournament-quality small mouth and large mouth bass fishery in the upper reaches of the lake near Springfield, South Dakota and Niobrara, Nebraska. This area is a winding maze of cattails and weed beds that hold large numbers of bass. Anglers will discover other species including walleye, sauger, northern pike, white bass, perch and keeper-size channel catfish. There is also an excellent opportunity for freshwater drum and good populations of bluegill and crappie in the upper reservoir. Fisherman can try shoreline fishing from one of the accessible fishing docks, or rent a fishing boat from the marina. Boating: Boaters can utilize nearby Weigand Marina to launch their boat or one of several other launch locations. Boat operators, when operating at greater than no-wake speed, are required to assure that each child on board under seven years of age is wearing a Coast Guard approved life jacket unless the child is within a cabin or below deck. Hunting: The area has excellent waterfowl hunting, in addition to pheasant and turkey populations. Big game hunters will find an excellent white-tailed deer population around the area. Guests rarely if ever have a desire to leave the valley except to get a chicken fried steak or prime rib up town one evening. About the space... The cabin sits on the bend of the Pine creek Rapids. Stream access is right across the bridge. This is an excellent place to hop in the refreshingly cool water on warm days. The cabin itself has been entirely remodeled with updated flooring, paint, trim, fixtures, artwork, bathrooms, beds and a brand new kitchen featuring hickory cabinets, dark counter-tops and a barn wood style backslash. Solid sliding doors are prevalent through out the cabin. The newly added screened in porch overlooks the rapids and is sure to be a hit with a large round patio table that accommodates 10. Opposite the table is a butchers block bar that's prefect for staging appetizers and cocktails before exiting out onto the large two tiered composite deck. On the deck to the right a portable fire pit will greet you, straight ahead is a fantastic sun bathing area and down the steps to the second level is a BBQ/ Smokers Paradise via the Green Mountain Grill. Cocktails on the built in reclining bench are a great way to enjoy the ambiance of the rushing water and reminiscence on the experiences of the day. On rare circumstances we would consider a one night stay during the week depending upon the time of the year so feel free to ask.
